Purchasing Manager

 

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the purchase of finished goods, raw materials, and technical equipment necessary for effective manufacturing.  Working from the Materials Requirement Planning (MRP) system, this individual will request quotes, place orders, track deliveries, and verify receipts.  This individual will also address material discrepancies, returns, documentation, pricing, and quality issues.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Obtain purchased items by placing purchase orders with suppliers with an emphasis on electronic components.  Monitor and expedite orders.
  • Manage all purchasing activities to ensure that the company has in stock and on order inventory required to meet 90-day sales forecast at any point in time.
  • Manage all aspects supporting item receipts, storage, location management, FIFO control, outbound order accuracy, inventory cycle counts, and inventory accuracy in accordance with world class business expectations.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers while working to obtain competitive pricing, manage lead times, and verify quality of products received.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory stock counts by location and category; raw materials, WIP, finished goods, reconditioned goods.
  • Develop supplier quality process including incoming material inspection verification based on input from the Engineering department.
  • Develop purchasing strategies for new and existing items to ensure the optimal cost, lead time, quality, and availability. 
  • Determine best “Plan B” strategies for high volume and/or critical items.
  • Oversee cycle counting procedures.  Maintain schedule of cycle counts.  Analyze variances and verify proper controls are in place to effectively mitigate variances.
  • Provide purchasing planning and control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data/trends.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Significant experience in sourcing and managing supply chain of electronic components for manufacturing (printed circuit boards, electronic components, sensors)
  • Minimum of 5 years technical buying experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong relationships with key suppliers
  • Experience using advanced inventory management/MRP/ERP system (preferably Netsuite)
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to multi-task and make decisions
  • Strong sense of urgency and follow-up
