FieldScout CM 1000 NDVI Meter - Manage Nitrogen Effectively

PRESS RELEASE - for immediate release

Plainfield, IL – Plant stress during early growing stages is often difficult to detect. One sure indicator of plant stress is the amount of light absorption and reflectance. Simply speaking, chlorophyll in healthy plants absorbs red light at levels necessary to drive photosynthesis while the leaf’s cell structure reflects infrared light. When plants are under stress, reflection of red light increases because of reduced chlorophyll absorption. Cell breakdown leads to reduced infrared reflectance. The normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) is a unit of measure designed to factor both red and near infrared reflectance levels.

The new FieldScout CM 1000 NDVI Meter uses “point-and-shoot” technology to instantly measure reflected light in the red (660nm) and near infrared (840nm) spectral bands. The CM 1000 NDVI Meter uses these measurements to calculate NDVI. The higher the NDVI measurement, the healthier the plant.
